Preface

The present work is based on original literary and archaeological sources and on a detailed survey of the area by the author himself, isone of the few studies on the regional historical geography so fa done in this country. It is the first comprehensive and integra-tel work on ancient geography of South Panchāla. The volume highlights the activities of the people of lower Ganga-Yamunā valey and their cultural developments from the earliest times to C. 200 A.D.

Bajpai, former Tapre Professor and Head of the Department of Ancient Indian Hisory, Culture and Archaeology, University of Sagar, who super-vise this work, deserves a special mention.
