Maya Tiwari
Early Life
Maya Tiwari was born in Guyana, South America in 1952, into an Indian immigrant family. She was raised in a household deeply rooted in Indian traditions, culture, and spirituality. Her early years were marked by exposure to Vedic rituals, mantras, and natural healing practices, which planted the seeds for her later work.
Struggles & Turning Point
In her twenties, Maya moved to New York City, where she pursued a career in fashion design. She founded a successful clothing company and enjoyed recognition in the industry. However, in 1981, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and given only a short time to live.
This life-threatening illness became the turning point in her journey. Instead of conventional treatments, Maya chose to return to her Vedic roots. Through Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, and self-healing practices, she made a full recovery. This profound experience inspired her to dedicate her life to teaching Ayurveda, yoga, and Vedic wisdom.
Spiritual Path & Name “Mother Maya”
After her healing, Maya embraced a spiritual path, training as a Vedic monk under Swami Dayananda Saraswati of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam. She took vows of renunciation and became known as Swami Mayatitananda.
Years later, she stepped away from monastic vows but retained the name “Mother Maya,” continuing to guide people with compassion, spiritual insight, and practical healing knowledge.
