Dr. C.P. Sinha, former Director of K.P. Jaiswal Research Institute, Patna is an eminent Art Historian and Indologist. He has authored many books, edited more than 35 volumes on art. archaeology and culture. He has also contributed 246 research papers in different aspects of art and iconography in reputed Journals which are known for their authenticity. He is advisor of Indian Art History Congress and was the president of the Bihar Puravid Parishad, Patna. He is a recipient of Senior Academic fellowship from Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi.

Dr. U.C. Dwivedi, M.A., Ph.d. was a recipient of the Patna University Gold Medal for having topped the list of successful candidates in first class in M.A. in 1972. He served as Director Museums, Bihar and at present, he is the Vice Chairman of Indian Art History Congress. He is also the General Secretary of the Bihar Puravid Parishad Patna. Dr. Dwivedi has contributed extensively on ancient Indian Art and Iconography in various research Journals.

Dr. Rashmi Sinha, Assistant Superintending Archaeologist, Vadodara Circle has done her Ph.D from the Patna University. Patna. Her book entitled "उत्तर बिहार में पुरातत्व का उद्भव एवं विकास '' throws new and refreshing light on archaeological wealth of North Bihar. She has Participated in excavations and also presented research papers in National Seminars.

Foreword

It is my great pleasure to write the foreword for this exciting book. India and Southeast Asian Countries have a rich and longstanding relation which was built on historic ties and civilizational interaction for more than two millennia. This has resulted in a fascinating and complex history that has left a significant mark on the region.

Many examples can be found that explains this strong linkages, among others are maritime trade routes, spread of religion, architecture of temples in Southeast Asia. absorption of Sanskrit words to national language, and stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata which are still widely taught across Southeast Asian Countries.

Pallavi Sinha did her MSC in Zoology from the Patna University, securing first class second position with distinction in 2000. Dr. Rakhi Sinha, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Political Science, M.M. Mahila College, VKSU, Ara Bihar. She has participated in many conference and seminars and presented research papers.

Preface

Late Ajoy Kumar Sinha was a well known competent authority on ancient Indian Art and Archaeology and in recognition of his valuable contributions in the field of archaeology. his friends, admirers and close associates planned to bring our a suitable commemoration volume in his loving memory. That he was a great champion of ancient Indian Art and Archaeology is amply demonstrated by his numerious research articles contributed by him in various research journals of repute both in English and Hindi. He was a highly capable editor, having edited some important books. While heading Directorate of Archaeology, Bihar as its Director, he undertook several important archaeological excarations in Bihar. He had published Archaeological District Gazetteer, Kaimur. This is the first archaeological gazetteer of any district.
