FOREWORD
I am happy to present before the world of scholars this collection of my articles "Essays on Sanskrit Poetics". The research papers collected here were written at different times and presented at various seminars/conferences and then published (in English or Gujarati) in various journals from time to time. Sanskrit Poetics was the subject of my first choice and I hope I have been able to do some fresh thinking about a few well-known points, during the course of my teaching of that subject for many years. The results of such efforts are collected here for whatever worth they are found to be.
My thanks are due to those who made me write these articles - particularly the organisers of the seminars/conferences, to those journals and their editors who published these articles and have now given me permission to reprint them here, to the University Grants Commission and the M.S. University authorities for releasing grant to print them, and to my friend Shri P.N. Shrivastava of the University Press and his colleagues for nicely printing the book.
