We stoyed in a palace from in imaginary world-Not that the shapes were impalpoble or the colours dispersed into thin air. Quite the contray, everthing here was tangible mode of brick,

wood and marble. the movements of your bodies inhabited the different rooms and inner courtyards, one after the other.

the writer Robert Dulau and photographer Arno Gisinger explored the surrounding area of Madurai to retrace the old merchant-builders who erected remarkable palatial houses in the villages of the south of india.
