Description
This extensive collection brings together some of the most authoritative and classical works of Vedic Astrology, Prasna Shastra, Muhurta, Siddhanta astronomy, and Jaimini astrology. These books collectively cover predictive astrology, horary astrology, annual charts, classical sutra literature, astronomical foundations, and traditional Sanskrit treatises. Ideal for serious students, scholars, practitioners, and researchers of Jyotish Shastra.
1. Prasna Marga, Part – 1
Prasna Marga is a unique work on astrology, natal and horary, of vital importance to every astrological scholar, practitioner and student. Written in 1650 A.D. by a renowned Nambudari Brahmin scholar of Kerala, the work compiles valuable material from ancient sources.
The English translation is presented in simple and elegant language with copious notes incorporating the translator’s own experiences. It touches upon important aspects of life such as marriage, children, longevity, death, disease, etc.
Part I is an exhaustive treatise on predictive astrology of immense practical utility. It deals not only with Prasna (Horary Astrology) but also covers Jataka (Predictive Astrology), Muhurta (Electional Astrology), Parihara (Remedial Astrology), and Nimittas (Omens). It presents a systematic methodology adopted by Kerala practitioners of Prasna.
2. Prasna Marga, Part – 2
Part II continues the encyclopaedic nature of the work and discusses matters affecting all areas of human life including marriage, children, causes of diseases according to karma vipaka and remedies, deities, rulers, war, natural calamities, travel, rainfall, water-divination, theft cases, dreams, death indications and timings.
As reviewed by R. Parthasarathy in The Hindu (1996), the two volumes provide a comprehensive picture of ancient Prasna astrology through lucid English translation, covering predictive, electional, remedial astrology and omens in a complete forecasting framework.
3. Brhat Samhita of Varahamihira (2 Vols. Set)
Brhat Samhita is an encyclopaedia of astrological and allied subjects of human interest. Varahamihira discusses diverse topics such as eclipses, planetary movements, rainfall, clouds, architecture, water-divination and many other scientific and astrological subjects.
Each subject is treated with mastery and depth based on ancient sastras, making it one of the most comprehensive classical works in astrology and related sciences.
4. Muhurtachintamani of Daivagya Ramacharya
This classical work contains 28 detailed sections covering Rashiprabheda, Grahayoni, Viyoni Janma, Nisheka, Janma Vidhi, Arishta, Ayurdaya, Dashantardasha, Ashtakavarga, Rajayoga, Nabhayoga, Chandrayoga, Dwigrahayoga, Sanyasa Yoga, Bhava, Drishti Phala, Strijataka, Nashtajataka, and more.
The publication includes the original text along with Bhattotpala’s Sanskrit commentary and Hindi explanation by Pt. Kedardatta Joshi, making the subject clear and accessible.
It also elaborates on astronomical calculations such as planetary motions, eclipses, tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, graha-yuti, and time calculations. The precision of planetary computations from limited data is described as subtle and scientifically refined.
5. The Surya Siddhanta
The Surya Siddhanta belongs to the class of revealed Hindu astronomical works. Unlike works of known astronomers like Aryabhata, Varahamihira, Brahmagupta, and Bhaskara II, this Siddhanta is considered a revelation, traditionally attributed to Maya.
It forms part of the eighteen Siddhantas, though historically only five were widely known. The Surya Siddhanta stands at the top among these revealed works and is foundational to Hindu astronomical calculations.
It represents the scientific astronomical tradition of India, covering planetary motions, calculations, and mathematical astronomy forming the backbone of Jyotish and Siddhanta tradition.
6. Jaimini Sutras
This English translation of the first two Adhyayas of Jaimini Sutras, originally by Prof. B. Suryanarain Rao, presents one of the most profound and unique systems of astrology.
Jaimini’s aphorisms are ancient, concise, and highly technical, requiring deep scholarship to interpret. The translation retains the original sutras in transliteration and provides explanations in simple English.
The system introduces unique concepts such as Hora Lagna, Ghatika Lagna, Upapada Lagna, Varnada Lagna, special Dasas including Brahma, Rudra and Maheswara Dasas, and distinctive methods of Bhava and Rasi interpretation.
The work emphasizes Jyotisha as the “Light of the Vedas” and presents astrology as a science guiding destiny, karma, and life events.
7. Tajik Neelakanthi of Neelakantha Daivagya
Tajik astrology forms part of the Hora branch of Jyotish. It deals with annual horoscopy (Varshaphala), analyzing the chart at the moment of solar return each year to predict yearly results down to monthly and daily precision.
Composed in 1587 by Acharya Neelakantha in three sections—Sanjnatanta, Varshatantra, and Prashnatantra—it discusses planetary strengths, annual yogas (including 16 Tajik yogas), Sahams, Muntha, and detailed annual predictions.
The Hindi commentary “Harinetra Vallabha” makes the work accessible. The author belonged to a distinguished lineage of Jyotirvid scholars and contributed significantly to academic Jyotish studies.
8. Muhurta Ganapati (Saravali Based Work)
This work presents a detailed exposition of Hora or natal astrology. Following Varahamihira’s Brihat Jataka, Kalyan Verma’s Saravali stands as a major classical text covering all aspects of life—happiness, sorrow, fortune, misfortune—in comprehensive detail.
It includes the essence of Yavana Jataka and other classical works. Due to its authority and comprehensiveness, it is prescribed as a textbook in many universities.
Originally in Sanskrit, it is presented with Hindi translation for wider accessibility. It is regarded as authentic, ancient, and unparalleled in its depth and clarity.
Together, this complete collection forms a monumental library on classical Vedic astrology, horary astrology, annual predictions, muhurta, astronomical siddhantas, and sutra-based astrological systems. It serves as an invaluable resource for serious students, scholars, and practicing astrologers seeking authentic traditional knowledge combined with systematic presentation.
