Description
The Mahavrata Saman is made of 5 Samans and the Fire Altar has 5 limbs. Be beating the drum and playing the instrument the priest gets the power over the spirit, which is close to the sound, like the thunder in the cloud of ram. The Vratya, the subject of our study on the Mahayzata Ritual, is closest connected to the Saman and its forms.
The entire rituals of the Vratya are based on singing, vina and drum and are rooted in shamanism. From the carliest Samans we find sounds and rhythms, which are related falling in trance of the Shaman, who during the trance travels into the regions of heaven and netherworld. Therefore we need to understand the Saman and its connection to the thoughts of immortality.
The Udgatr Priest is obviously a development from the Vratya, who is the only of the four priests, which is not chosen by the sacrificer. This study on the Saman of Immortaliny is the direct continuation of our study on the Mahavrata Ritual and the worship of Indra and Rudra. The Vratya Tradition we date into the Upper Palaeolithic Period and so we date the beginning of the Sarman and its connection to immortality.
