Swami Lakshmanjoo
Swami Lakshmanjoo was born in Srinagar, Kashmir, into a traditional Kashmiri Pandit family in 1907. From a very young age, he exhibited spiritual inclinations and a deep attraction towards the study of scriptures. Recognized as a gifted child, he was guided into the profound philosophical tradition of Kashmir Shaivism.
Education and Training
Swami Lakshmanjoo received both traditional Sanskrit learning and spiritual training under renowned masters of Shaivism. His primary guru was Swami Mahtab Kak, under whose guidance he immersed himself in the esoteric practices of the Trika system. He studied the Tantras, Agamas, and the philosophical treatises of Abhinavagupta, eventually becoming a living authority on Kashmir Shaivism.
Career and Contributions
Swami Lakshmanjoo dedicated his life to preserving and teaching the rich spiritual heritage of Kashmir Shaivism. He expounded the difficult works of Abhinavagupta, Kshemaraja, and other masters, making their teachings accessible to contemporary seekers. His oral expositions were later compiled and published, offering rare insights into texts such as the Shiva Sutras, Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, and Spanda Karikas.
He was not only a scholar but also a realized practitioner, often referred to as the "last master of Kashmir Shaivism." His hermitage in Srinagar became a spiritual hub for seekers from across the world, including scholars and practitioners.
