SK Punshi is a well-known figure in the field of dermatology. He is an Ex-President of Indian Medical Association, Amravati; Ex-Joint Secretary of Indian Medical Association, Maharashtra; Ex-President of Indian Association of Dermatologist, Venereologists and Leprologists, Maharashtra; Ex-President of Dermatological Society of Vidarbha; and Ex-President of All India Association of Dermatologists and Leprologists. He is also an Ex-Member of the editorial board of the IADVL journal.
He received many awards like All India award by Skin Institute and School of Dermatology, New Delhi, Ambady oration award in IADVL conference at Jabalpur, and Lions International Club award.
He has been credited with over 125 papers and research articles in various national and international journals. He is the author of Vitiligo: Diagnosis and Treatment, Vitiligo and Placental Extract, Vitiligo (a quarterly medical review-2 issues 1999), and A Handbook of Leprosy. His work on leukoderma is quoted in various books and journals of dermatology. He is one of the premier scholars who introduced placental extract therapy and herbomineral therapy in vitiligo. He is famous for his eponymous sign, "Punshi's sign" in vitiligo clinical finding.
