Description

This Second, enlarged edition of Hinduism Reconsidered contains four new papers in addition to the thirteen papers which had been presented in a panel of the IXth European Conference of Modern South Asian Studies held at Wilhelmsfeld near Heidelberg in 1986 and which were already published in 1989 in the first edition. The idea of holding the panel "Hinduism Reconsidered" was to evaluate critically current concepts and analytical frameworks used by scholars in their studies on Hinduism. The participants of the panel were therefore invited to contribute papers that either focus critically on theoretical approaches to Hinduism or illustrate their analytical parameters and concepts of Hinduism by a case study based on fieldwork or literary sources.
