Description
To write anything on Savitri is a presumptuous proposition, as well a daring one for it is not the poetics of the past, an aesthesis of the mind consicousness that goes to the creation of this epic. It is Sri Aurobindo's new concept of poetry and his Overmind aesthesis on which this epic of the future stands. Moreover, Savitri is no ordinary poem. It describes ' all Time's huge surve' rising from the viewless abysm of the inconscient, our unseeing base', into the equally viewless summit of the Superconscient. To wirte on scuh a poem without any occult or yogic or spiritual experience is indeed an attempt which is presumptuous and darling. But that should not be a bar to make a mental attempt to understand this extraordinary poem according to our present poetic sensibility.
The present volume deals with Sri Aurobindo's new concept of poetry of the future- its 'laws' of composition and the new aesthesis. It also deals with the form, design and structure and technique of Savitri along with its thematic scheme. The purspose is to provide a foodhold that the readers might require to have some sort of understanding of Savitri as an epic poem. The day is not far when this wonderful Epic of epics shall find a place in the syllabi of our Universities and our studetns shall stand in need of something which could acquaint them with this poem. The book has been mainly prepared in view of the need of students and of common readers of poetry, specially of Sri Aurobindo's poetry. The author shall feel amply recompensed if the book is even a little bit of help to the readers.
