Om Namo Narayanaya! Om Namo Bhagavate Sivanandaya!
I am very happy to write these words by way of FOREWORD to the Engligh Translation by Dr Mrs Sita K Nambiar of the Tamil book "SVANUBHUTI", by Acharya Appayya Dikshitar of 19th Century. Acharya Appayya Dikshitar was the elder brother of the Purvashrama father of Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj the great world famous saint, the illustrious Founder of The Divine Life Society. He was a great Vedantin, and an authority on Upanishads, Brahmasutras and the Bhagavad-gita. He has written 64 books of which 62 are in Sanskrit, one in Grantha and one in Tamil. "SVANUBHUTI" is the one written in Tamil.
Introduction
Twenty years ago when the late Revered Swami Vidyananda of Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh, gave me the book 'Svanubhuti', written in Tamil and asked me to translate it into English, I was a little hesitant. Swamiji left the book with me and told me that whenever I felt like translating, I could do it. Ten years back, I read the book and thought that it was easier to translate it into Malayalam and I started doing so. But, I did not finish it. After about another eight years, i.e., two years back, I finished translating it into Malayalam and then into English. Finally it is complete now.
